About Gaya

Gaya, located in Bihar, India, is a historically significant and sacred city for Hindus and Buddhists. It was part of the ancient Magadh Empire and sits on the banks of the Falgu River, surrounded by three hills. The city is known for its temples and pilgrimage sites, including the Vishnupad Temple, which holds an imprint believed to be of Lord Vishnu. The Mangla Gauri shrine and Akshayavat, a sacred peepal tree, are also important religious sites. Gaya has deep mythological roots, linked to Lord Ram, Sita, and Buddhist traditions such as the Fire Sermon preached by Lord Buddha.

Nearby, Bodhgaya is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage centers in the world, as it is where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree. Bihar played a crucial role in the birth and growth of Buddhism, with Emperor Ashoka aiding its revival through monasteries and commemorative pillars. The Mahabodhi Temple, blending various architectural influences over centuries, remains a major site visited by pilgrims from around the world.
